Terra Drone's UT Drone gained class-society certification for ultrasonic thickness gauging in ship inspection (Oct 2022, announced as a world first), targeting one-tenth the cost and effort of scaffolds and lifts. ClassNK published drone guidelines for class surveys (Apr 2018, flight tests in tanks and holds); DNV GL inspected a 19.4 m FPSO tank with the indoor Scout 137 drone (2020). No confirmed use at Japanese yards for newbuilding surveys yet.
